SHERVIN SHADIANLOO

Double Board Certified Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist and a trained Psychodynamic Psychotherapist.

Thank you for reading this page about my experience and background. I obtained my medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and worked for a couple of years as a primary care physician in a rural remote community before  I moved to Australia where I was trained and practiced in Psychiatry. I decided to pursue my  training in New York, knowing about its rich history in psychiatry. I finished general psychiatry training at New York Medical College and Lenox Hill Hospital followed by a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at Zucker School of Medicine at Hoftsra Northwell (formerly known as North Shore-LIJ) where I continued to work and am currently an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry.

I have been trained in different schools of psychotherapy including Psychodynamic, DBT, CBT, Family and Play Therapy. I have always been interested in integrating various aspects of psychiatry. I pay attention and am well familiar with medical and organic ailments. I listen carefully to my patients’ problems to understand their stories and how each and their families are affected by what is going on. My approach in therapy is integrative, I use the skills from psychotherapy methods in a psychodynamic framework with focus on emotions to form a treatment plan whilst addressing and paying attention to biological aspects of my patients’ mental health.

In addition to clinical work and teaching, I have dedicated my time to working with organizations advocating for mental health of our society, in particular the youth, and excelling care by engaging other psychiatrists and mental health practitioners in education.
